The Top 10 Ways to Improve Your Resume, Fast

When you apply for a job, chances are the first thing a hiring manager will judge you on is your resume. It’s why getting it right is so important. You see, even if you are more qualified than other candidates, and you have the skills and background the employer is looking for, you might get overlooked…

Simply because your resume isn’t up to snuff.

Today GetAJobFast.net will share the top 10 ways to quickly improve your resume, all designed to help up your chances at landing an interview. And, after we show you these resume tips, we’ll show you a really quick way to find a job to apply for.

But first, let’s get to the resume tips.

Tip #1: Tailor your resume. Hiring managers are looking for the best candidate for the position. Carefully read the job description and tailor your resume to the exact job. It may take you more time than blasting the same resume to every employer, but by highlighting your skills and experience for that exact job posting, with that exact employer, you’re showing them what they’re looking for.

Tip #2: Fonts and font size. Never get fancy with your fonts. You’ll want the hiring manager to be able to read your resume with ease. Additionally, you’ll want the font size to be large enough to see clearly, but small enough for you to fit all your information on two pages.

Tip #3: Overviews. With your overview, start off with the most important information, accomplishments, and skills first; skills tailored to the job description. Your overview is your resume’s first impression. Start it off on the right foot.

Tip #4: A no-brainer. Never lie on your resume. It’s not worth it, and you will be found out.

Tip #5: Stay relevant. Don’t use irrelevant or outdated skills or experiences. Streamline your resume to highlight relevant experiences and skills for the job. For past jobs that aren’t relevant to the current position you’re applying for, mention them and note the skills you learned. But always remember tip #1.

Tip #6: Length. Keep your resume to no more than 2 pages. Instead of fully explaining your responsibilities at your last 12 jobs, use your overview to highlight the skills you’ve learned. You can certainly list all 12 of your last jobs, but there may be no need to go into a full explainer of each one, especially if they’re irrelevant to the job you’re applying for.

Tip #7: Your template. Don’t use a generic resume template to build your resume on. Overly generic templates may create a multitude of issues including a major one: getting blocked by HR software called applicant tracking systems, or ATS. If your resume is not readable by ATS, it may never be seen by the hiring manager.

Tip #8: Give credit where credit is due. If you were a key player, had big work accomplishments, increased sales, brought in new clients, launched new products etc., highlight them! Past achievements may be a good indicator of your future value. And HR loves future value.

Tip #9: Drop the fluff. Language like “hard-working,” “ambitious” and “team player” are often seen as overused, simplistic, and generic. Besides, hiring managers already expect you to be hard working. Instead of saying you’re hard working, list your accomplishments to prove it.

Tip #10: Keep it simple. Stick to four basic sections in your resume. The overview/summary of qualifications section. The work experience section. The education/certifications section and the soft and hard skills section.

There you have it. 10 quick ways to improve your resume. Now that you know how to better prepare and present your resume, it’s time to find a job to apply for.
