The Three Things You Should NEVER Do In a Job Interview

If you’ve got a job interview lined up, and GetAJobFast.net helped you find that job…

Congratulations!

We’re glad to have helped. But just because we helped you find a job, and you have an interview scheduled, it doesn’t mean you’ll get hired. In fact, HR experts agree that they should interview many candidates before a hire is made.

They call it the “interview-to-hire ratio.” And, according to research, HR managers should be interviewing anywhere from 4 to 20 candidates before a choice is made, depending on the complexity of the job, of course.

This means that at a minimum, you can expect to be competing against at least three other candidates, and maybe as many as nineteen.[1]

So, with that said, GetAJobFast.net is here to help you beat them. See, not only do we want you to find a job (and we’re very good at that), but we want you to land it too!

We’re here for you during the whole process.

And that’s why we are going to help you prepare for a job interview today. More specifically, we’ll share with you three things you should never do in a job interview.

But before we share this vital information with you, we do want to let you know that we have other job interview tips on our website for you (in our Resources section).

And we’ll be publishing future articles on job interview prep, dedicated to helping you prepare for the big day. So, check back often.

Now, back to today’s topic.

Some of the things we’re about to share with you may seem obvious, but they are in fact often done by unprepared candidates. And luckily, HR experts have shared the biggest blunders with us so you can avoid them.[2]

See, by avoiding these three mistakes, you’re putting yourself in a better position with the employer, you’ll be more prepared for the job interview, and you have a better chance at getting hired.

So, let’s get to what not to do in a job interview. Ready?

1: Unless you’re a 15 year old applying for a summer job, never involve your parents or show up to an interview with a parent or guardian.

It may sound crazy, but one HR expert said, “Any level of parental involvement in the interview, especially someone who brings their parent to an interview, is a no. Parent calls to schedule or reschedule the interview? Pass. Bring a parent to the interview? Immediate pass.”

2: For an in-person interview, be sure you’re dressed for success. Don’t show up sloppy or unhygienic. This is an absolute must… Never show up for a job interview unless you’re clean, wearing nice, job appropriate clothing and your breath is fresh.

Even if you’re interviewing for a job as a cesspool scrubber (a good job by the way), don’t look or smell like one. Brush your hair and bring breath mints if you have to.

3: This one is important. With so much technology at our fingertips, it’s become easy to “cheat” at an interview, especially if it’s a virtual one.

So, never use artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT to help you answer interviewer questions.

An HR manager revealed, “I did a video interview with a lady who, after a few questions, made it painfully obvious that she was just feeding the questions into ChatGPT and reading back the answers.

“This told me she either knew nothing about the position or had so little confidence in her skills that she would need to be constantly shadowed rather than being able to eventually work independently.

“Both are instant “no".”

Like we said earlier, these three job interview no-no’s may seem obvious. But they actually happen, and they happen a lot.

Now, it would be great if your competitors did them, it would surely give you an edge, but just be sure you don’t do them.

Like we said earlier, if you’ve got a job interview lined up, and GetAJobFast.net helped you find that job…

Congratulations!
